As a research team member at the University of Florida’s Machine Intelligence Laboratory, I prototyped and designed a spring torpedo launcher for the autonomous underwater vehicle SubjuGator to compete in 2023 RoboSub Competition. The previous torpedo launcher on SubjuGator used a pneumatic system which is less reliable than a spring system under water. A variety of corrosion-resistant springs were tested for improved launch force consistency. The first prototype of the new launcher only had one torpedo bay. I then re-modeled the launcher to have a second bay to double the torpedoes that can be launched without reloading.
I also modeled a lidar mount that was 3D printed for the autonomous maritime system NaviGator to compete in 2022 RobotX. By changing the lidar mount angle from 0° to 15°, the usable lidar view range was increased from 15° to its full 30°.
